During the Dragon Boat Festival, which is a lunar holiday occurring on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month in the Chinese calendar, the tradition of racing (龙舟赛) among teams (队伍) has become a significant cultural activity. The festival is celebrated by boat races that are shaped like dragons, with competing teams rowing their boats forward to beat the rhythm of drumming (敲打) to reach the finish line first. This traditional custom aims to rescue (搭救) the patriotic poet (爱国诗人) Chuer Yuh, who drowned on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month in 277 B.C., leaving behind a legacy of survival and unity.

The celebration is also about protecting (防护) against evil (邪恶) and diseases (疾病). For this reason, participants not only gather healthy herbs (草药) on their front door (门前) but also drink rich concoctions (营养品) made from real gar (竹子) wine. These practices are meant to remind people of the spirit of the fishermen in the Low River area who scatter rice across the water to prevent dragons (毒液) from devils from the river.

According to Chinese citizens, throwing bamboo leaves filled with cooked rice into the water is a tradition that has persisted throughout history. Therefore, fish can eat rice rather than the spirit of Chuer Yuh during the festival.
